Our most important suggestion that will save you a huge amount of time and money: IF IT FITS IN A BOX, PUT IT IN A BOX.
When packing fragile items such as china, crystal, glass etc. wrap in BUBBLE WRAP or PACKING PAPER. Wrapping your breakables correctly before packing them in a box will help guarantee the items will survive the move.
Properly label your boxes. CONTENTS and ROOM. This will help your Crew to know how to handle your belongings and where the boxes should go in the new location.
Double check that your boxes are properly sealed on the top and bottom. The Moving Crew suggest you use 3 slightly overlapping layers of tape on top and bottom.
Stray items that do not fit in a box should be bound together for easy carrying and storing. Start the tape our backwards to avoid it sticking to the bundled items.
Packed boxes should never weigh more than 40 lbs. It is just cardboard after all. Think of it like this; the heavier the item, try to use the smallest box possible, then fill the rest with light or padded items like pillows or towels.
Moving Service Tips
The busiest time to move is the beginning and end of the month; make your reservations with The Crew two to four weeks before your desired day.
As soon as you decide it’s time to move, it may be a good idea to start deciding what is going to the new home, and what is being donated or tossed out.
If you have children, don’t forget to arrange to transfer school records at least two weeks before the moving day.
Cancel newspapers, cable, pest control, cleaning help, lawn services about a week before the move.
Mail in your change of address forms about week before your move date.
You may need to have other contractors in your old home for repair, cleanup, disconnection services, etc. You may also need other contractors in your new home for installation, utility or electronic setup, etc. If possible, please schedule all of this for a time before or after the Crew is on site. This will help ensure the ease of access needed for a safe and efficient move.
